For the World Two-Stroke Championship race, this year my bike of choice was the KTM 250SX. I have been spending a lot of time racing a 2018 KTM 450SXF, so I figured adapting to the two-stroke version would be fairly easy.

For the MTA 2 stroke World Championships we built up our 2018 KTM 250SX 2 stroke to get it ready for racing. Dennis Stapleton worked with KTM, WP and other companies to get an already great bike better.

Dennis proves how hard you have to go in deep loam to keep from falling off the pipe. Note, how much faster he goes with each passing lap. When you throw in big hills, deep loam is a major test for the power of a KTM 250SX two-stroke.

Stapleton likes to build project bikes. He does them for lots of people and companies, so when Kim asked Stapleton to build him the ultimate 2014 KTM Factory Replica III, Dennis was honored and enthusiastic. We don’t know how you say “money is no object” in Danish, but Denmark Dungey had no upper limit.

We decided to build a bike that would allow us to race the AMA 450 Nationals on a shoestring. Our goal was to build a purpose-built motocross bike; one that would be competitive against the works bikes; one that would cut no corners; one that would give its rider a fighting chance.
